An Eventful Experience

Battle For Crete

The battle for Crete started 20 May 1941. Thousands of German troops parachuted in. The battle went for 12 days. Troops from New Zealand, Britain, Australia and Greece fought the Germans. 671 New Zealander died.


This occurred on the Normandy coast in France.  The Allies aim was to end the war in Europe and get the Germans out of France. More than 130,000 men came by boat and 23,000 more men came by plane and gliders.

    This is a really great summary of what you learnt from these important dates. It looks like these were both very important days/events in the War, especially D-Day as I am sure everyone was desperate for the war to end.

    How did you find reading about the war? I once went to the war memorial museum in Wellington and I found it really interesting learning about everything that happened but so much did happen it was hard to wrap my head around! I hope you didn't find it too bad.

    You've done a great job of telling me a little about what you learnt and I appriciate it as I now feel like I have learnt something too!
